AAC (assistive and augmentative communication) hardware is a specialized computer or tablet that runs preloaded software to generate speech. It offers preset buttons for frequently used words and a keyboard view for typing. Users can choose preset voices or specific voice banked voices, and message banking can be incorporated with speech through buttons or automatic population.

​These devices can cost between 5 and 8 thousand dollars, and insurance coverage may vary. It is recommended review this with your insurance and an AAC company representative.
